Here are responses to some frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Every question is a good question, it allows us to raise awareness about hypnosis

Does hypnosis really work?

Yes, hypnosis works. But don't take my word for it, there is plenty of research that can be accessed online that shows how effective hypnotherapy is. On Google Scholar, you will find thousands of articles supporting the use of hypnosis for various situations, including weight loss, stop smoking, addressing IBS symptoms, stress management. pain management, improved immune functioning, bed wetting, auto-immune disorders, bruxism (teeth grinding), nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy, fibromyalgia, etc. The list grows even longer if you include the search term "guided visualization," which is, of course, a tool that is widely used in hypnosis. If you are seeing me for a physical issue, you will need a Doctor's referral.

Will Hypnosis Work for Me?

Anyone can be hypnotized. The success of the hypnosis sessions is dependent on your motivation and willingness to do the homework and to integrate the techniques being taught. The relationship between the hypnotist and the client can be looked at as a "coaching" relationship with the hypnotist teaching and refining new skills that the client must practice to master therefore the client's role is equally as important. The client must agree to actively participate in the sessions and in the homework.

I am committed to providing you with the best quality of services possible. I will adapt my style and programs to meet your needs to give you the best chances of success, but like any other intervention, no one can promise success.

Do you actually use a pocket watch?

Unlike the movie stereotypes, I do not typically use a pocket watch. I engage the imagination of the client to create the hypnotic state. That being said, when I use a pocket watch, it is usually just to tell time.

Do you offer sessions for children?

My minimum age for clients is 16 years old, and anyone under 18 requires parental consent.

How many sessions will this process take?

The number of hypnosis sessions required varies greatly according to your needs and your motivation. While most issues are dealt with in one or two sessions, sometimes more sessions are required. I always check in with the client at the third session to make sure that we are on track and that they are satisfied with their progress.

Is a Doctor's referral required?

Generally speaking, weight-loss for over 25 pounds, bed wetting, pain management, sexual dysfunction, requires a Doctor's referral highlighting any medical considerations or contraindications that I need to be aware of. Other programs, such as smoking cessation or nail baiting typically do not require a Doctor's referral. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us for clarification. If in doubt, a referral will be required and I can provide forms for your Doctor to complete.

Are the fees covered by my insurance?

As a Registered Social Worker, my fees are covered under certain extended health care plans. My fees may also be income-tax deductible under the Medical Expense Tax Credit (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/medical/ and http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns300-350/330/ampp-eng.html). If you are curious to see if your insurance company covers my fees, please contact them directly (I do not do direct billing).

Are online sessions as effective as in person session?

Absolutely, online sessions can be as effective, and in some cases more effective than in person visits. In fact, clients appreciate being able to do the sessions from the comfort of their homes, and from anywhere in the world! Please email me for more information and to discuss your particular case.

Do you offer semi-private sessions?

I do offer semi-private and small group sessions, upon request. Please contact me to see how we can accommodate your requirements. Semi-private sessions may be an effective way for clients to encourage each other in reaching their desired change while saving money.

Why do you not have testimonials on your website?

While testimonials are great marketing tools and look great on a website, I am bound by the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers which does not allow for testimonials. This helps to protect the clients from feeling obliged to reveal personal information and/or putting them in an awkward ethical position vis-a-vis my services. You can rest assured that my services are professional, effective and ethical.
